If you think this book will help you represent yourself, don't even bother. You will still need a lawyer because of the things talked about are so unfamiliar. It will tell you what to do, BUT IT will not SHOW YOU HOW. I assume you are picking up this book because you are a novice. Moreover, if I am right, you will have no usage of this book except getting some general idea to look and do extensive research elsewhere if you have a lot of time.I believe people more experienced would be digging for more specific useful information. But they will not find it here.If you are not sure, borrow the book from the library to see if you need a copy at home.
Came in very useful when I had to go to small claims and then civil trial. Worth the money!!
I have not read the entire book yet. But I have always been pleased by Nolo books. I have several that are very useful to me. The trying Cases to Win series, by Herbert Stern is also very helpful for this type of knowledge. The Anatomy of A Trial book by Stern is a more generalized approach to the 4 volumes. I was motivated to learn about the law after being taken advantage by 2 different lawyers. I now believe that it is every citizen's duty to make it clear that they will fight for themselves.This book is similar to other Nolo books about communicating a seasoned lawyer's advice. Nolo includes little tips that are helpful but are not really points of law. It's more like friendly advice. The authors let you know what the other side is supposed to be doing, but may not be legally required to do. Knowing this information exposing helpful intel about the character, or lack of, of one's opponent.
Good advice, but crippled by some access issues and lack of functionality that has been standard for a decade.Most egregious here is the lack of a search function...in a book on the law.No search in a legal DIY guide? That's quite an oversight...
Highly detailed, which seems good though I'm still reading and haven't put it to the test yet. I borrowed a copy from the library that was in near-new condition, but over the past 2 weeks I've read it so much and so often that I felt bad about returning it. So I bought a fresh copy for them!
