I've loved professional wrestling and comic books since I was a young child and now that I'm an adult child, this book was pretty much the perfect thing for me. Aubrey and Chris tag-team to take readers on a crash course through wrestling history, revealing the background and origins of the phrases I see people use on Twitter all the time.Wanna know what kayfabe means? Interested in learning about just how exactly the WWE got so freaking huge? This book will take you by the hand, whip you into the ropes, and gently dropkick you in the face with an enjoyable blend of sequential art and history lessons. Perfect for any fan of pro grapps and funny books.
As a lifelong fan of both comic books and professional wrestling, I can honestly say that I have never seen a more well executed marriage of these two distinctly American genres. I quickly lost count of the number of times I caught myself smiling and nodding along as I leafed through these vibrantly animated pages. The art in the book is fantastic and the attention to historical detail is exceptional. The Author and the Artist must have culled over volumes of historical visual reference to present this as authentically as they have here. The writer does a fantastic job of balancing history, nostalgia and commentary, in making what may be the most satisfying "history" book I have every read. I also really appreciate that this was not done with the cooperation of any major professional wrestling organization, leaving the Author and the Artist to provide this unfiltered and unrefined history of the sport. I give it my very Highest Recommendation.
This book is an absolute treat for any wrestling fan. Great artwork and history combine to make this a must read. The only disappointing part is when you reach the end of the book. I'd gladly buy more wrestling comic books in this style.
I've been following Aubrey as a wrestling commentator for about five years. I have always appreciated his ability to analyze pro wrestling in a way that brings out the best of it, the most rich elements of it that show everyone why we're not just weirdos for watching this bizarre spectacle. This book has synthesized all of Aubrey's philosophies into one amazing package, filled with rich insight, incredible illustrations and loving tribute. I'm not even a comic book guy and I still loved this. Anyone should.
I was so excited to get my copy of this book ... knowing very little about wrestling, but having watched it with my grandmother as a child, I knew there was lots to learn. It is obvious that much research and thought went into the production of this book and if that is not enough, the artwork is exquisite with great Caricature images of the wrestlers. My excitement took me through the book quickly, but now I am ready to sit and read and study each page to learn all there is to know.
I am a big wrestling fan and when I saw this book, my interest was piqued. When I started seeing page previews of how gorgeous and accurate the illustrations were, I was sold. This is a THICC book with a lot of info packed into it. I haven't even gotten through it all yet but I have already learned so much. Recommended for die hard fans and for that friend you are trying to get into wrestling who loves comics.
